The European Cybersecurity Act: moving forward!

The Cybersecurity Act (Regulation (EU) 2019/881 of April 17, 2019) was published in the EU Official Journal on June 7, 2019, and entered into force on June 27, 2019. The Act contains provisions which will have a major impact on the field of cybersecurity in Europe, particularly with the creation of European cybersecurity certification schemes. These schemes should contribute to the consolidation of the single market solving current problems related to the fragmentation of European certification schemes.

In February 2020, Pieter Byttebier, Attaché International Relations, at the Centre for Cyber Security Belgium, outlined the context in which the Cybersecurity Act was adopted, elaborated on the content of the schemes and explained what certification means in practice.

In the meantime three draft cybersecurity certification schemes – Common criteriaCloud security and 5G  have been launched. A lot of legislative work is currently being done to create a National Cybersecurity Certification Authority in Belgium.

Morgane Truant drives the EU Cybersecurity Act implementation project at the Centre for Cyber Security Belgium and is thus best placed to inform you about the progress made during the past months and what to expect later this year.

Join us in this webinar and learn how the Act will be applied and what it means for the different actors in the field.
